YouWalkAway.com was recently featured on Cleveland, Ohio’s NBC affiliate WKYC. The news story focused on the abundance of foreclosures and underwater homes in the northeast Ohio area.
Tom Bourke and his family walked away from their home after being transferred to Detroit for a mission trip and finding out their current property was worth less than they owed. Bourke was, at first, afraid of walking away when he couldn’t make a deal with his lender. “A friend of mine told me, they probably won’t talk to you until you quit paying them every month… I thought are you kidding me? I’ve never been late on my electric bill. And now you want me to NOT pay a mortgage?”
Chad Ruyle, co-founder of YouWalkAway.com explains why he feels people shouldn’t be ashamed to walk away, “Part of the contract says if you don’t make the payment, the bank gets the house back. So, you’re not breaking your word, you’re not breaking a bond, and certainly not doing anything illegal.”
